3. How did Jesus respond to their question?

Reflect

In yesterday’s reading, Jesus declared Himself to be the Messiah, the Savior Israel had been waiting for – but when He arrived on earth, He subverted all expectations. Where Israel expected a strong and powerful military or political leader, Jesus humbled Himself and served others. He gave attention, honor, and healing to the outcasts.

Jesus’ desire is for everyone to know Him and experience His healing power. He healed all types of illnesses and maladies from all kinds of sources – spiritual, clinical, situational, and biological. We can easily see where Jesus healed physical ailments, such as bringing sight to the blind, but we shouldn’t forget that He wants to heal our mental illnesses, too.

Jesus wants you to be whole and experience the peace only He can bring. Sometimes He brings healing right away, but other times, according to His good plans, He doesn’t. This is where your faith in His character and His promises is needed. If He says full healing will come when He returns to earth, then it will come to pass. And in the waiting, He is always with you.

Respond

Have you experienced Jesus’ healing power in yourself or others? What was that like? How does knowing His character and promises bring you hope? Spend some time in prayer thanking God for sending Jesus to bring healing.
