2. Where did his confidence come from?

3. How did the Israelites respond to God’s power?

Reflect

Even though there was a wicked king on the throne, God wasn’t going to let evil win. He used Elijah to make a fool out of the false prophets, showing just how powerless idols truly are, and to make His glory known among the Israelites. When God moves, it’s always to show more of Himself.

God wants us to be a part of His work. When we say yes to Him, we get to join Him in what He’s already been doing around the world to make His name known. It’s a blessing to accept His invitation, and it can be a front-row seat to His demonstrations of power and majesty.

If you’ve experienced this kind of “mountaintop” moment with God, don’t keep it to yourself. Share with others how you’ve seen His glory, because life isn’t lived just on the mountaintop. As you’ll read tomorrow, sometimes it’s right after your best moments with God that you can experience a valley. When you're able to remember what God’s done for you before, you can set yourself up for hope in all circumstances.

Respond

Think of a time you experienced a mountaintop with God, whether it was an answered prayer, a time you saw Him move, or a moment when you knew He was with you. What aspects of His character did He reveal to you? How can you remember more often who He is and what He’s done for you? Spend some time in prayer thanking Him for these things.
