Review
1. How many years was Joseph in prison?
2. Who did Joseph say had the power to interpret Pharaoh’s dream (verse 16)?
3. How did Joseph’s situation change afterward?

Reflect
More than two years after Joseph was put in prison, he reached a defining moment. His long-ago dreams had turned into a detour, which led to a dead end. But God was weaving it all for a greater purpose. Just as Joseph had done all along, he acknowledged God’s power and wisdom. And just as God had done all along, He remained present and faithful to His promises.

Joseph’s defining moment revealed his humility, dependence, faithfulness, and courage, and our defining moments do the same. God’s dreams for Joseph were much bigger than he could have imagined, leading him to eventually save Egypt and God’s people, and God’s dreams for our lives are much bigger than our aspirations too. Wherever our dreams, detours, and dead ends take us, we can trust the heart and character of our Father.

Looking back on the journey of your own life, when and where have you seen God’s presence and faithfulness? How do you think He wants to develop greater humility, dependence, faithfulness, and courage within you? What steps can you take to let Him do so?

Respond
Pray through today’s reading, reflecting on the questions just posed. What do you think God is prompting you to do in response? Write it down, share it with a friend, and take a step to start making it happen.
