Reflect

In the midst of teaching on treasure, Jesus talked about worry. Why? Because worry often drives our disposition and our money decisions. This includes the ways we spend, save, and give, or the ways we don’t. Jesus didn’t dismiss or minimize the things we worry about. He also didn’t tell us to just “stop it.” He did remind us, however, that He’ll provide our needs.

There’s a difference between having anxiety or worry and being anxious or worried. One is a natural feeling. The other is a decision to stay there. It doesn’t take much to get overwhelmed in our world. The problem is, when we worry, we put our effort and treasure into the things we’re worried about. Our perspective is completely dominated by them, which leads us to a false sense of control.

If you struggle with worry, don’t let it steal your focus or drive your perspective. Don’t let it pull your time, talent, and treasure away from what really matters. You’re here for such a time as this, and God is in control. Now is the time to surrender your anxious thoughts and awaken to what He wants to do in and through you. It’s time to bring redemption and restoration to this broken and hurting world.

Respond

  • Where do you usually see worry or anxiety play out in your life? How does today’s reading change your perspective?
  • Look back at the attributes and actions of God in today’s verses. How do they comfort, inspire, or challenge you in your current life situation?
  • How have you seen worry or anxiety pull your time, talent, and treasure away from what really matters? How could you redirect your perspective back to God on a regular basis?
