The words you say.

Series: Asking for a Friend | Week 5: The Rest of the Questions

Luke 6:45
What you say flows from what is in your heart.

James 3:7-8
People can tame all kinds of animals, birds, reptiles, and fish, but no one can tame the tongue. It is restless and evil, full of deadly poison.

It’s not the words, but the condition of our hearts that God cares about. It’s not like God can’t handle our words. Paul used pretty harsh words in the New Testament!

But we need to ask ourselves: Is strong language necessary? What you say and how you say it reveals what’s really going on in your heart.

If you struggle in this area, ask God to show you what’s really going on in your heart. You can pray and ask him for help in taming your tongue, knowing that your words are a result of what’s in your heart. Spending more time seeking Jesus, becoming more like Jesus, will help!
