Review

  1. What does Jesus say He knows?
  2. How does He describe the believers?
  3. What will He do in response to them?

Reflect

Jesus had nothing to celebrate about the Laodicean church. Using harsh language, He rebuked the believers for their apathy. This city sat between two useful sources of water: hot springs for healing and cold springs for soothing and refreshing. However, by the time the water reached them, it was lukewarm, unpleasant and useless. Jesus used this image to describe the believers’ indifference towards Him.

We can find ourselves in a state of indifference too. It might not be a conscious choice we make, but if we don’t continually remind ourselves of our need for God, we can fall asleep at the wheel, shift our focus inward, and believe we can get by on our own. God wants us to live aware of His presence.

What is the temperature of your heart today? If you find yourself lukewarm, it’s not too late to take a step towards God. He wants you to draw near again. Acknowledge your need for Him, thank Him for His presence, and ask Him to provide, whether you need to warm up towards His mission or to cool down and let Him take care of you. This prayer is one He will always honor.

Respond

  • Have you become indifferent to God’s presence in any area of your life? How can you invite Him back in today?
  • Where have you seen God’s provision recently? Take a moment to thank Him for providing.
  • Where do you need God the most right now? Who can you ask to join you in prayer over this area?

Pray through these questions, and write down what God is prompting you to do next. Share with a friend, and take a step to apply it.
