Think on these things.

Series: Summer in the Psalms | Week 2: Fully Known and Fully Loved

Philippians 4:6-9
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.

Having an authentic prayer life with God takes practice. Anxieties will surface, distract, and perhaps overwhelm us so we forget the truth that God knows us fully and still loves us.

It can help to identify what makes us anxious, and ask Him for what we need. Then, we must ask Him to search our hearts once again and reveal what He finds. We can also focus on the Bible and find promises there to meditate on and pray about. Ultimately, we must trust that God hears us, is in control, and is good.

If you are feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, remember that although you can’t control what thoughts come to your mind, you can control what you dwell on. Ask God to give you wisdom and strength to do this, and to grow your authentic prayer life day by day.
