Stay focused on Jesus.

Series: FOBO (Fear Of Better Options) | Week 3: What If?

Matthew 14:30-31
"But when he saw the strong wind and the waves, he was terrified and began to sink. 'Save me, Lord!' he shouted. Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him. 'You have so little faith,' Jesus said. 'Why did you doubt me?'"

Peter takes a step of obedience out of the boat. For whatever reason, though, his attention gets drawn away from Jesus and to the wind and the waves. Maybe he starts to get overwhelmed by the details or how big a deal it is to walk on water. Whatever it is, Peter sees his circumstances, gets scared, and starts to sink. Jesus’ response has nothing to do with Peter’s ability or success, but everything to do with Peter’s focus in the midst of the storm.

Respond

1. How can you stay focused on Jesus once you’ve stepped out of the boat? Are you assuming the storm should stop once you step out? Ask God to keep you focused on Him and thank Him that He’s with you in the storm.

2. Where might you be trusting in something other than Jesus to save you? If you’ve never made the decision to trust Jesus with your life, you can do it now. Come to Jesus today and admit your need for Him alone to save you from drowning, thank Him for the fact that He immediately reaches out when we call and trust Him as he leads us through every storm. Tell someone about your decision!
