Obedience is the best decision.

Series: FOBO (Fear Of Better Options) | Week 3: What If?

Matthew 14:27-29
"But Jesus spoke to them at once. 'Don’t be afraid,' he said. 'Take courage. I am here!' Then Peter called to him, 'Lord, if it’s really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water.' 'Yes, come,' Jesus said. So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus."

Peter isn’t being a thrill-seeker with his statement here. More likely, he’s feeling a nudge to be with Jesus and he wants to check in with Him and make sure he’s really being obedient. Obedience is at the root of making better decisions. Peter wants to discern between an authentic call from God and a foolish impulse, so he asks. Big decisions in life require wisdom and discernment. They require you to turn down the volume on everything else so you can hear from God.

Respond

 1. What decision are you currently trying to make that seems a bit crazy, like stepping out of a boat to walk on water? Ask God to speak to you about this decision and then set aside time each day to actually hear from Him, turning down the outside noise and distractions.

2. God’s leading in your life will never be contrary to what He’s already told you in His Word or lead to the harm of others. If you’ve asked God for His voice, seek Him in His Word first and then through the wise counsel of others around you.
