Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do.
A word like “obligation” carries with it the idea of “debt.” There are two types of debt: we are either in debt because we owe payment or, we are indebted because we owe gratitude.
When you are “controlled” or “led by” the Spirit of God, you can be in gratitude because you realize all that Jesus has done for you. Therefore, you can say, “I’ll gladly trust you, follow you, serve you and live for you!” You can say, “I am free because my life is no longer dominated by sin!”
Jesus has done everything sufficient for your salvation and right standing with God. What that means is you are no longer obligated to operate out of a feeling of debt toward God! Instead, be indebted to him and thank him for this free gift!
Through this series, Aaron encouraged us to read Romans 5-8. Read it as God's personal letter to you!
