Imitate Jesus.

Series: We Are TPCC | Week 1: Humble

Philippians 2:5-8
“You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Though He was God, He did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, He gave up His divine privileges; He took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When He appeared in human form, He humbled Himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.”

What does it look like, practically speaking, to live out God’s best for you? Imitate Jesus. Have His same attitude. These verses show us that was no easy task! Jesus stepped down from the perfection of Heaven and lived a selfless, obedient life. He was ridiculed, spit on, treated unfairly, arrested, beaten, and put to death in the most agonizing way possible, all to do the will of His Father and provide a way for you to be with Him. That’s true humility and that’s the attitude we are to have.

Respond

1. It’s too easy to gloss over these verses and admire what Jesus did from a distance. Pause. Reread the verses in some different versions. Ask God to move you to awe of His extreme example of humility.

2. Just as you don’t wake up and run a marathon without training, becoming like Jesus and having His attitude is a lifelong process of practice. Talk with your group about some ways you can start practicing having the same attitude of Jesus.
