I Am.

Series: Waymaker | Week 1: Miracle Worker

Exodus 3:13-14
“But Moses protested, ‘If I go to the people of Israel and tell them, ‘The God of your ancestors has sent me to you,’ they will ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what should I tell them?’ God replied to Moses, 'I am who I am. Say this to the people of Israel: I am has sent me to you.'”

When God gave Moses the task of leading the Israelites out of their captivity in Egypt, Moses didn’t feel up for the task (you can read more of the story here). He was afraid, he argued with God and asked all kinds of questions about how it would play out. Notice God’s response to Moses—He didn’t boost Moses’ self-esteem—He encouraged Moses by defining His own character. I AM is connected with the name Yawheh. It describes God as the one, true God, no beginning or end, unchanging. He is whatever we need Him to be, at any point in our lives.

Respond in Prayer
As you sit alone with God, where do you need Him to be I AM? In a world where things are constantly changing, where nothing seems certain anymore, where anxieties run high, praise God for His unchanging nature. Find your security and stability in Him. Ask for His strength to choose hope over fear, peace over anxiety, love over doubts and confusion.

For Families with Kids at Home
How can you and your family model God’s peace and security today? How can you choose love, peace, and hope over fear, anxiety, and confusion? When tensions run high (as they surely will!), choose today to give kindness and forgiveness for and with each other. When you don‘t, forgive and then move on. Remember: we all need a lot of grace right now.
