Series: Come Follow Make | Week 1: Come Follow Make

Matthew 4:19
Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!”

The second word in this verse is the word follow. After we come to Jesus, just as we are, He then calls us to follow Him. Following Jesus includes walking as He walked and being obedient to the things He calls us to. Oftentimes, it means leaving something behind—old ways, habits, etc. He showed us the way to live and to love, and we follow Him as a way of life. We keep going even when we mess up or get off track. Discipleship can be messy and even hard to measure, but keep following.

If you’ve come to Jesus and committed your life to Him, here are a few practical ways you can start following Him: 1. Engage with your Bible. Go beyond just reading it. Start in John and read a chapter a week or so, asking yourself ‘What is God saying to me and when am I going to do it?’ 2. Get connected in life giving relationships. Commit to your group or get involved in one for the first time so that you can pray for each other, encourage each other, and help each other apply God’s Word to your life. 3. Start serving. Instead of just consuming church services, get on mission with us in 2020. There are numerous ways to serve so try it out and find the team that best fits your gifts! Start here!
