A safe path.

Week 1: Course Correction

Day 3

Proverbs 4:20-27
My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. Don’t lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart, for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body. Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. Avoid all perverse talk; stay away from corrupt speech. Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you. Mark out a straight path for your feet; stay on the safe path. Don’t get sidetracked; keep your feet from following evil.

Life as a follower of Jesus isn’t just about avoiding disaster. It’s also about arriving at a desired destination safely! But how do we progress from where we are right now in our relationships, marriages, parenting, careers, health, relationships with God… to where we want to be?

One requirement for getting where we want to go is to direct our focus toward that destination. Good intentions about a goal aren’t going to cut it; we have to actually take steps toward the destination. Another requirement is to make small, daily decisions that point us toward the goal. Daily decisions may seem like no big deal, but they can actually change the trajectory of our outcomes. And finally, what we download into our thought life is often what we will gravitate toward. We have to fix our thoughts on our intended destination.

Today, ask God to help you guard your heart, for it determines the course of your life—your direction, daily decisions, and your thoughts. Trust Him to help you stay on the safe path.
