Volunteer Oppurtunities
If you are considering helping out with the SM we would love to hear from you. There are many ways you can serve with us without being a mentor. For example: cafe team, trip chaperone, event security, tailgate griller, etc. Email Andrea Bowman at abowman@tpcc.org if you're interested in helping out!
Quick Tips
These are just a few things you can do to keep track of what your kid is up to:
1. Check their Facebook or MySpace. Both Facebook and MySpace are online social networking websites that allow people to connect with others all around the world. Each person creates a personal profile and can communicate back and forth with other users. Many students have a profile. Ask to see your student's profile. Many students give a pretty accurate depiction of who they are, or at least how they are portraying themselves to others. This is an oppurtunity to have some good conversations about their friends and self-image. Use this as a conversation starter and not another battleground.
2. Check out their iPod or MP3 player. Again, this is conversation starter: talk about the bands that they are listening to. Ask about the lyrics. Who knows, you might even find something you like! The point is to begin understanding the culture in which your student lives.
3. Talk to their small group leader. We cannot reiterate enough that we want to be your teammate. We want to work together to create the best possible growing enivorment for your student. If your student in involved in one of our small groups, talk to his/her leader. Give them prayer requests for your student. You're not delving for secret information but forming a partnership that will increase your ability to know what's going on with your student.
