Darren Messick – Minister of Children

Darren
is responsible (ha-ha) for ministering to the children in grades
one through five.
Family: Cathy, my lovely wife of 14 great years; then
there are my little "m&m's", Morgan and Madison
Hometown:
Elkhart, IN; "I grew up in the shadow of
the golden dome, as we like to say!"
Educational Background:
Attended
Evangel University in Springfield Missouri, "where
I played football and was a physical education major
(I know, I know, age and pizza have taken their toll
on me)." Currently enrolled in Global University
studying for a degree in pastoral ministries.
Career Background:
Served 11 years at Traders Point Christian Academy
as Chaplain and P.E. teacher. "I have also
been a line cook, salad prep, waiter, factory worker,
did construction, heating and air, drove a semi, separated
the sticky stuff off of rejected tape, janitor, etc.
etc. etc."
Hobbies: NOTRE DAME FOOTBALL! "I love the Irish!
Playing golf, reading, bike riding, and
yes...SHOPPING...my father-in-law can't stand that
last one about me! So if the women's group needs
a driver for a Christmas time shopping trip to the
Mall of America, I'm in!"
Interesting things to know about Darren:
- I took ballet my senior year of high school, had
a crush on one of the girls signed up in
the class
- I studied tae kwan doe for one semester in college,
had a crush on one of the girls in class
- Was offered a partial scholarship to play football
in college, but the best offer I had was to come be
part of the Ball State Singers, the school's
show choir! I was a three-year swing choir person in high
school. (Look out dance ministry!)
- Have an unhealthy love and passion for sweet tea!
