Aaron Brockett, Lead Pastor

As the Lead Pastor, Aaron is the primary communicator and vision caster for the church as he serves shoulder-to-shoulder with the Elders and staff to equip people in our community to love God, love others, and serve the world.

My Story …

I was born in Baltimore, Maryland where my father served in the Navy. Shortly after, we moved back to my mother’s hometown in Joplin, Missouri, where we settled and I was raised. Though I grew up in church and could regurgitate all the “Sunday school” answers, I truly didn’t know or follow Jesus until I was 17 and a senior in high school. The Holy Spirit gripped my heart and this shy, introverted kid found himself enrolling in Bible college in the fall with no intention of going into full-time ministry because I didn’t think I had what it took. While there, God gripped my heart once again with a call that came completely out of left field – a call to preach. It was so clear and so profound I couldn’t ignore it. God was doing in me what He has done time and again with countless other preachers over the generations – igniting a passion within them to illuminate God’s words for a generation of people to know and follow Him. In the words of D. Martyn-Lloyd Jones, “the work of preaching is the highest and the greatest and the most glorious calling to which anyone can ever be called.” I’m now learning why: if God doesn’t intervene then I have nothing to say. God takes great joy in partnering with us to propel His name and His message. The more I preach, the more I realize I have very little to do with it.

While in college I found myself preaching on the weekends at small rural churches in Missouri, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. (Those poor people!) After graduating from Ozark Christian College with a BA in Bible and Ministry, I began preaching full time in southern Illinois while attending seminary classes at Lincoln Christian Seminary. In 2001, we moved to Davis, California, to start a new church in a largely populated university town. Several years later I joined the teaching staff at a church in Louisville, Kentucky, and in 2007, the elders here at TPCC called me to be the Lead Pastor. I consider it a privilege, a joy, and a stewardship to serve such a healthy and unified group of people to advance the Kingdom of God. My hope for our church is that we will be sensitive and obedient to God and to the Scriptures, that we will engage those who have questions about God and the meaning of life, that we will inspire people to follow Jesus, and that we will continue to equip one another to serve our world.

In 1999, I married my wife Lindsay, and we have four children: Conor, Campbell, Kennedi, and Kadence.
